For years, "make a gingerbread house" has been on my Christmas bucket list but I had never got around to it. I was reluctant to pay £12 for a kit but I was too intimidated by the thought of making my own house from scratch. It looked complicated! But then I saw the Fairytale Cottage mold in Lakeland and knew I had to have it:
One of the best baking items I have ever bought. At £12 the mold is the same price as most of the kits but you can use it year after year! The gingerbread popped out of the silcone mold really easily and assembling it with royal icing was far simpler than I thought it would be too.
I let my boys decorate it with Smarties and chocolate buttons, which was so much fun! Making gingerbread houses is definitely going to become an annual family tradition. I'm tempted to do a spooky chocolate haunted house version for Halloween too.
Anyone else love making gingerbread houses with their kids? Or, like me, had always assumed that it was tricky and been too scared to try it?

so sweet! been looking at the Lakeland mould think I will have to get it after seeing this!
