Cable Storage Version 1.0

Technology is brilliant but if there is one thing that drives me mad with all the gadgets, it's the darn cables and chargers everything comes with. There is just no easy solution to storing them neatly! For a long time, I've been keeping everything in this:

To start with I just slung everything into the box with no further attempt to organise the cables, which wasn't terribly practical but at least if I needed a charger I knew it was in there somewhere. But eventually having to untangle cords every time I needed something started to irritate me, so I started storing each cable in a separate sandwich bag. Not a sophisticated solution, but it did work... until we all got lazy and two years down the line we were back to a mess of tangled cords. With sandwich bags mixed in.

So one day, when I found myself with a free half hour I decided I was going to tackle the cable beast and create a more workable solution to organising our cords and chargers. I started with cutting up a cereal box to create dividers, then reinforced it with lots of tape.

At this point I realised this is probably a temporary solution because wood would do the job so much better and look prettier (yes, I care what the inside of boxes look like in my house and I don't care if that makes me crazy). I'm about to embark on a project that needs wood and I think I'll have the necessary off cuts left over to re-do my box divider. So I abandoned my idea to make the cereal box dividers look aesthetically pleasing and just covered them with some brown parcel paper instead:

  1. Excellent temporary storage - I did this for a while with a box that had wine glasses in originally and it worked, but I need a longer term solution. Cables infuriate me - my husband has a gazillion of them!

    1. My husband hoards cables too. To my eyes, half of them look like they serve the same function but he says he needs them all!

Wine glass box would be a good solution (in the short term).

  2. Ooo, wine glass box is a great idea. I'd be lying very badly if I didn't say all my wires were in one place, in a drawer... unbelievably tangled.

  3. We definitely think alike - I did almost the exact same thing with mine! :)

    1. That's the good thing about the 'net. In the offline world people tend to think I'm nuts for doing things like this - "meeting" other organised bloggers makes me feel less crazy :)
