How To Stop The Mirror Fogging Up

How to stop the mirror steaming up might just be my favorite tip ever because it is so quick and simple to implement, and surprisingly effective. I am probably the last person in the world to hear about this little trick - it is never a good sign when my husband knows a household tip before I do! But hopefully someone in the blogosphere hasn't heard it either.

All you need is a bar of soap...

Any soap will do as long it is a bar, not liquid.

Step one. Scrub the entire surface of the mirror with the bar of soap.

Make sure you don't miss any spots!

Step two. Clean the mirror in your normal way. In my case, that means using a spray made from one part white vinegar to one part water and then wiping it with a microfiber cloth. You will need to use a little more elbow grease than normal - you've just covered it with soap after all.

Step three. Okay, there isn't really a step three. The soap should magically stop your mirror fogging up. Unfortunately, this is one household trick where it is difficult to photograph the end result. My mirror may now be steam proof, but my camera lens isn't!

I'm not sure how long the effect lasts before your mirror starts fogging up again, but you should be good for at least a few weeks. :-)

  1. I have never heard about this trick, but it sounds good! I happen to have 2 very large mirrors in my bathrooms, so it'll be a pretty big undertaking, but worth a try! :)
